Google PR is well known as a site grader in search. It’s a way to identify how trustworthy a website is, how authority and popular in its own industry. Back in the old days of SEO, Page Rank was the basis of most webmasters out there, every 4 months or so, there would be PR updates and within those cycles, link builders would go crazy building links to their clients’ websites.

And then.. In February this year, Google has stopped the PR update for the next 10 months, leaving the webmasters clueless what their website current page rank in their industry. With that being said, many of us focused on developing content for our website and disregarding the Page Rank status of our websites. However, in the early days of December 2013, Google has made another Google PR update even Matt Cutts said himself that we would be surprised to see a PR update this year.

Now that Page Rank has returned and will live on, it is important that you know how to increase your own PR to compete in other websites in your industry. But it does not mean that you will do the old-school SEO tactic again and manipulate your SERP. This time, you will have to do it carefully and ethically. In this post, I will give you some good tips on how to build high quality links for your website. Let’s get started.

Guest Blog for Authority and Exposure

Guest posting is well known for building high quality links, since guest post links that point to a website is selective, you can choose what keyword you should use. But make sure that it’s not exact match if you don’t want to have violation in Google Webmaster Tools.

Guest blogging has different benefits that your website can benefit from,

  • It passes your website authority
  • It gives additional exposure for your website
  • It gives you high quality links

You can find guest writing opportunities in your industry by searching for them in search engines. But you don’t have to appear on all sites that you will find available in SERP. You can just simply choose the most authoritative website in your space.

You can find these websites by using these search queries:

inurl:”guest post”+”your industry”

inurl:”write for us”+”your industry”

Once you have your prospect websites, you can check their domain authority by using an online tool like OSE. You can then identify which ones authoritative and low quality websites.

Broken Link building

Broken links are opportunity to increase the inbound links to your website. It can help you build high quality links that can help your website compete in search. We all know that high quality relevant links are very important in the link profile of a website rather than crappy links that can hurt your website and affect its search performance.

Finding broken links on websites in your industry takes a lot of time and dedication but it’s worth doing actually.

How to do this?

Look for resource pages in your industry and check the links to see if there’s any broken links on the page.

Look for defunct domains – It may not be applicable to all industry but there are some blogs or websites that have become non-operational for quite some time and probably, these websites have had high quality links that point to their websites. You can check the link profile of a defunct domain and look for high quality links that a site has.

You can use Ahrefs.com, MajesticSEO, or OSE to see all their links and contact the webmasters of those websites to inform them that the domain xxx is no longer live and offer them your link as a replacement. You just need to make sure that it is relevant to your website to keep it white hat.

No link Mention Seeding

Another good way to build links for your website is to look for your brand mentions that do not link to your website. I know there are people that are unaware of the benefits of linking a page to another and due to this, it is inevitable for some websites in your industry or related websites to mention your brand or website name but do not link to your website.

You can identify these websites using Google Alerts or Mention.net to find link opportunities on websites that did not link to you. Once you have the websites that mentioned your brand without linking your website, communicate with them through email requesting to link your website in your brand mention.

The benefits:

  • It helps your website earn links naturally
  • It increases your brand visibility
  • It passes authority to your blog

Visual link building

Diagram, Chart or Images are good way to demonstrate the information you are sharing. There are people that prefer to look at informative visual images rather than reading blog posts. It also tends to earn more links from different domains, increasing your referring domain and ranking power to your website.

How to create links in visual images:

Submit it to image directory websites such as: Flickr, Pinterest, Deviantart, Imageloop, Reddit

Use images hosted on your websites to your guest posts – Image links, sourcing your website

Although image link building isn’t enough to strengthen your back link profile, it is still a good way to diversify your link sources. Since your profile can’t only be guest post, directory, bookmarking etc. You have to ethically create links for your website in any way possible as long as it does not violate the search engine guidelines.

Leveraging your PR should not be that difficult if you have these top strategies on the list. In a short period of time, maybe 3-4 months before the next update, you should be ready for PR increase of your website. But PR should not only be your focus, providing content to your website should still be your priority because there is no sense in building links for your website if they can’t find any information on your website at all.
